It's ok to feel the heaviness

There’s a lot of messaging out there in the ‘wellness’ space that suggests we should be feeling happy and joyful and full of energy all the time. That we must ‘be what we want to attract’ and ‘vibe higher’ in order to create the lives we want. But this messaging creates a very narrow picture of life, and kind of implies that we should be aiming to remove discomfort and negativity from our experiences all together. That eternal happiness is the goal and that anything less means we’re falling short.

The thing is, to eradicate difficult experiences, discomfort, sadness, anger, heaviness, from our lives is not possible. We are human, we are living, breathing, feeling ecosystems, in a world filled with challenges and complex issues. We are social creatures, with social conditioning and in a society that idealises the concept of control, when really we have none.

We are here to experience to fullness of being alive, of being human. And to remove the heaviness is to remove a huge part of what it is to be us.

It also means taking away huge pieces of information and insight. Huge opportunities for growth and evolution because…

  • our anger,

  • our sadness,

  • our grief,

  • our frustration,

  • our disappointment,

  • our loneliness and struggle

…provide us with clues. They tell us…

  • ️when we’re going in the wrong direction,

  • ️when our boundaries have been crossed,

  • ️when our needs aren’t being met,

  • when we’ve lost something that really mattered,

  • ️that we’re working for something meaningful,

  • ️that we’re growing and changing and becoming someone new.

In the heaviness, lies some of the richest, most fertile soil for expansion, growth and change because it’s where the deepest insights live.

So I want to remind you, that when you feel yourself experiencing heaviness…it’s absolutely ok…it’s human and if you’re open…it’s an opportunity to explore who you’re becoming.
